Hi Guys!

If I am an owner operator choosing to live out of my truck to save on living expenses; how can I qualify for IFTA in any base jurisdiction? It really defeats the purpose of saving money to have to rent a place just to get IFTA.

Thanks for any tips or ways to work around having to lease, rent, or own a place. Thanks!

Mike

I operate under the 150 mile short haul exception. I do cross state lines into north Carolina. I have apportioned tags and file Quartey my mileage in NC and SC with IFTA.I have been using time sheets and writing my mileage in NC but not keeping up with daily mileage in SC because Any mileage on the trucks not in NC would obviously be mileage in SC.

The states are OR and ID. Is this true?

Yes because you will need the miles from both states for your IFTA fuel tax report.

Do I need to account for California miles as well as Nevada?

Yes. If your GVWR is over 26,000 lbs. and you drive outside of your base state, then you need to file the IFTA fuel tax forms.

If you have an IFTA permit and IFTA stickers then you have to still file the IFTA forms even if all of your miles were in one state.
